Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Albany is in an area known as Plantation Trace in Albany, Georgia. The Logistics Base is roughly three hours south of Atlanta and 90 minutes north of Tallahassee, Florida; Georgia cities Macon, Columbus, and Valdosta are about one hour from the base. Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Mission
MCLB Albany provides global logistics and supply chain / distribution management via Marine Corps Logistics Command (the base’s largest tenant command) and also features depot level maintenance management through Marine Depot Maintenance Command and Production Plant Albany.
MCLB is also the site of the Chemical, Biological Defense Enterprise Fielding & Surveillance Directorate.
MCLB Albany is one of six commands under Marine Corps Installations East, which has its’ headquarters at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany History
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany was commissioned in 1952 as the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies and began supply support for Marines east of the Rocky Mountains and in the Atlantic area in 1954. 13 years later Storage Activity and Depot Maintenance Activity were added to the mission.
In 2005, a major restructuring of Marine Corps commands saw MCLB Albany divided into a base command, becoming one of seven regional installations reporting to Marine Corps Installations East.
2009 was the start of an important local energy project; MCLB Albany, Chevron Energy Solutions, and Dougherty County officials agreed to a landfill gas-to-energy partnership, with a $20 million generator plant (responsible for nearly two megawatts of renewable electric power and steam) became operational through the partnership.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Surrounding Area
Albany, Georgia has a variety of attractions and places of interest including the Albany Museum of Art, Thronateeska Heritage Center, Wetherbee Planetarium, Ballet Theatre Albany, and the Albany Civil Rights Institute. PGA.com lists six golf courses for the Albany area, a mixture of public and privately owned sites.
Albany is the hometown of Ray Charles, Paula Deen, country singers Luke Bryan and Ray Stevens, and World Series MVP Ray Knight. There are a variety of places to visit dedicated to some of the more famous residents of Albany including Ray Charles Plaza.
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Inprocessing and Check-In
All newly arriving personnel should check in with the Military Personnel Center (MPC), which serves as the initial point of entry for Marines assigned to the base. MPC also issues Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders,Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) orders, handles travel vouchers, entitlements and more.

Those arriving after duty hours or on weekends must report to the Officer of the Day in Building 3500. Check-in procedures include endorsing the service member’s orders and keeping a copy of the orders for turn-in the following day.
Single military members checking in will report to the Barracks Duty NCO to be assigned a room, while accompanied service members must make billeting or other arrangements prior to arrival.
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Services
Medical Care
On-base medical options are limited. MCLB Albany has a small branch medical clinic with appointments made by phone at 229-639-5976. Most special treatment options will require a referral to one of two Albany civilian hospitals. On-base dental services are for active duty military only.
Child Care
MCLB provides on-base child care through accredited Child Development Centers for dependents ages six weeks through 12 years old. Full time and part time care are both available as well as before-school and after-school programs for Pre-K children. Drop-in care may also be available depending on demand and space available.
The CDC features a state-funded Pre-K program funded by Georgia’s Office of School Readiness; this is a free option for children who turn four years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current school year.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Schools
There are no DoD schools on base at MCLB Albany. Children of military members will attend one of 14 public schools in the Dougherty County School System, choose private options or choose the appropriate school district where they live in the local community where applicable.

Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Housing
There is generally no waiting list for enlisted housing, which has been privatized and is managed by by Lincoln Military Housing.
All ranks should contact the Military Housing Office to register for on-base housing at 229-639-5962. Off-base housing is considered reasonably priced but all personnel are required to coordinate off base housing agreements with the MCLB Housing office.
Enlisted “Geographic bachelors” or those who have families but are PCS or TDY to the base unaccompanied have more limited on-base housing options, and there are no on-base options for geographic bachelors who are officers.
PCS and TDY Lodging
On-base billeting for PCS and TDY service members is limited. Contact Live Oak Lodge for temporary lodging, when available, at 229-639-5614 or DSN 567-5614. A credit card is required at the time of reservation.
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Transportation
Those coming PCS or TDY to the area should know that commercial bus service is not available between the Marine Corps Logistics Base and the city of Albany; an alternative is offered via Base Garrison Mobile Equipment Branch.
Those coming to the base on official travel can request a pickup during duty hours Monday through Friday via Dispatch at (229) 639-5665/5639. For official travel after duty hours, it’s necessary to call the Officer of the Day at (229) 639-5206.
Vehicle Registration And Driver’s License
Vehicle decals may be required to gain entry to the base. Service members should bring their military ID, drivers license, proof of insurance, vehicle title and registration paperwork to the Main Gate where the Pass and ID Section is located (in Building 3010 next to the gate). Temporary passes are given as well as permanent base decals.
In addition to these requirements, all Marines 26 and under must attend a Driver Improvement Course in order to continue operating a motor vehicle on the base.
